The course
The Undergraduate Course in Philosophy was recognized by Decree No. 17259/44 –DOU of 12/07/1944.
The course has two laboratories: the Graduation and Research Laboratory on the Teaching of Philosophy (LLPEFIL) and the Noésis (Laboratory of Studies on Ancient Philosophy); the Center for the Study of Ethics and Society, the Center for the Study of Phenomenology, Hermeneutics and Personalism. The Laboratories respectively offer extension and research activities on Philosophy Teaching and on Ancient Philosophy.

They are open to the participation of all philosophy students at UERJ, professors and others interested in their themes. The Centers are also open to students and the general public. The Department of Philosophy also offers a Specialization course in Modern and Contemporary Philosophy, as well as a stricto sensu Postgraduate Program, with a master's and doctorate in Modern and Contemporary Philosophy. The Graduate program has a grade of 5 (five) in the CAPES assessment.

In the last National Student Performance Exam - ENADE held in 2005, the Philosophy course at UERJ obtained grade 4.

Goal
Provide students with the main traditional and contemporary sources of philosophical thought, as well as train professionals able to teach philosophy in high school and to develop research in the area of philosophy, comprising the licenciatura and baccalaureate. The undergraduate training in philosophy at UERJ enables the continuity of studies at the postgraduate level, which enables the student to teach courses at a higher level.
Duration and Shift
It can be completed in a minimum of 8 and a maximum of 15 periods, in the morning or in the evening.
Structure
It is structured in the form of credits. The student will be able to enroll in pedagogical subjects (licenciatura), obeying the provisions of the flowchart of the degree course, and attend the Licentiate and Bachelor's degree concurrently. Both branches, Bachelor's and Licentiate, require a Final Course Work (Monograph).
Subjects
The student must attend, in accordance with the Curriculum Guidelines for Undergraduate Courses in Philosophy, compulsory and elective subjects, including History of Philosophy, Logic, Theory of Knowledge, Ethics, General Philosophy: Metaphysical Problems, Philosophical Anthropology, Aesthetics, History Economic, Social and Political, among others. The list of philosophical electives provides a significant qualitative deepening for the formation of the philosophy student. to edit the text.

The student who intends to follow this career must have the ability for philosophical investigation, critical reflection, deduction capacity and the power of synthesis.
