The course
The Undergraduate Course in Philosophy was recognized by Decree No. 17259/44 –DOU of 12/07/1944.
The course has two laboratories: the Graduation and Research Laboratory on the Teaching of Philosophy (LLPEFIL) and the Noésis (Laboratory of Studies on Ancient Philosophy); the Center for the Study of Ethics and Society, the Center for the Study of Phenomenology, Hermeneutics and Personalism. The Laboratories respectively offer extension and research activities on Philosophy Teaching and on Ancient Philosophy.

They are open to the participation of all philosophy students at UERJ, professors and others interested in their themes. The Centers are also open to students and the general public. The Department of Philosophy also offers a Specialization course in Modern and Contemporary Philosophy, as well as a stricto sensu Postgraduate Program, with a master's and doctorate in Modern and Contemporary Philosophy. The Graduate program has a grade of 5 (five) in the CAPES assessment.

In the last National Student Performance Exam - ENADE held in 2005, the Philosophy course at UERJ obtained grade 4.
